Paediatric Trauma - Pain

This module covers the following topics:

• The initial approach to evaluation and management of the paediatric trauma patient using the primary survey.
• The physical, physiological and psychological differences affecting injured children.

There are three ED modules on paediatric trauma. We recommend you begin with the module ‘Primary survey’.

This module is made up of two clinical scenarios: Brayden and Anna. Each clinical scenario is followed by six and eight questions respectively.

The questions are a mixture of multiple choice with one correct answer, multiple choice with more than one correct answer, yes/no, and questions involving the ordering of information. The correct answer is given for each question, followed by an explanation.

Please note: Some questions are expected learning at the level of a medical student. Other more advanced questions are at the level of a resident and have been marked with an *asterix. Medical students will be interested in these questions for their future work as interns and residents, although they are not examinable.
