Doctor : Hello Alice, Mrs Thomas. It's a while since I've seen you both. What can I help you with today?
Mrs Thomas : Well Doctor, we're really worried about Alice. My husband and I were worried but we didn't think we should say anything. Then the school counsellor rang up and said they were concerned too. She's always been good at school, in the top three of her class all the time, and she insists on doing all this training for athletics. But we decided we should come and see you, and...
(sighs)
Mrs Thomas : Anyway, all this seemed to start about three months ago when Alice had an attack of gastroenteritis. We think she's really underweight now... she doesn't seem to want to eat properly anymore... and we just don't know what to do. Her father gets really angry with her at the meal table and her sister's upset as well.
Doctor : Alice, it sounds like your mother's quite worried.
Alice : Well I don't know what they're worried about. I'm OK!
Doctor : So from your point of view, there's no problem?
Alice : I'm not sick!
Mrs Thomas : And, Doctor, I weighed her the other day... she's fourteen now and she's only 42 kilos, and she hasn't had a period for three months!
Alice : So?!
Doctor : I think there's something really wrong...
